Good sandwiches that are in that middle zone between simple and overly complicated: a few interesting ingredients on good bread.

Cute bakery downtown. They make all the dough in-house. It's very similar to Panera but with better food and service.

So I used to walk by this place for years to go to other restaurants for lunch and one day someone was sitting outside and their meal looked very appealing.

With a name like Bread Line you expect the bread to be the star. Well, this place does not disappoint. The bread is fresh and excellent and the sandwich makings are just as good. I particularly enjoy the Cuban when they have it. With all the great fixings for sandwiches it is not hard to imagine that the bread line does great salads. What is a surprise is how good their fries are. Also, if your around for breakfast their French toast is something to be craved. Lines can look long but move fast.

I happened to be in the neighborhood where Bread Line is and stopped in for lunch today. I ordered the combo of gazpacho (the special today) and fries. The soup tasted of the most amazingly ripe tomatoes the kind I dream about finding at the farmer's market, but usually don't. It was the perfect blend of vegetables and seasoning. What can I say about the fries? Freshly cut and fried, skins still on, amazing. A guilty pleasure. Finally, they throw in a ciabatta roll with the soup. I told myself I wouldn't eat that after the huge order of fries, but after tasting it I couldn't leave a bite uneaten. Truly fantastic experience and I'll be back.

Indeed, as I walked past, I knew this is what I needed. Never been here before and may I say, the tomato basil soup is AMAZING!!!

Delicious sour dough breads, best bought to take home. Sandwiches are made while you wait and are substantial and well-flavored. Good salads and coffee to round out an excellent location for lunch downtown
