I really hate to not have a single good thing to say about any restaurant that we go to and we eat out a lot. This place is a dump and the food is garbage. My daughter's tiny little styrofoam cup of chili with crackers was cold. My hamburger was served on a cold bun and the meat was compressed to an eighth of an inch. The highly touted fries were greasy, soggy and lukewarm. My husband's fish was buried under the greasy and soggy fries and there was no knife or fork provided. When he asked for them, he was directed to the condiment counter where all there was were plastic, toothpick-like forks. After three bites of our food, it all went in the garbage, where it belonged. The soft drinks were small and full of ice. For this, we paid nearly $30.00 and then ended up going to another restaurant for lunch.The premises were dirty - greasy floors, greasy and dirty table tops, disgusting washrooms. Best place for fish and chips in the area - try the Dundas Legion Fish Fry on Friday evenings during the winter months. Much cheaper and the drinks are reasonable also.

Every time we go there its great food- great atmosphere and overall a great experience- fun to head down to the water afterwards and skip some rocks! A must every summer at least a couple of times!
Hutch's has been a part of Hamilton for longer than most people have lived here. It's a must-try fast food destination for the foodie in you. Although it's not always that fast. and not always that perfect. it just rocks, because it's Hutch's.
July 1/17 we decided to head to Hutches to try their " famous " fish and chips. It was very busy as we expected .but finding a table was easy and , although the line seemed long ,it moved very quickly ! The young lady at the counter was very friendly and personable. My husband wanted the 2 piece fish and chips and I went for the one piece...with a large side of gravy to share. The wait for food was quite short as well. I was disappointed that the fires were not hotter...I like them " steaming " hot when I get them. The fish was a good size portion...but I must admit .both items were " average ". I have definitely had much better elsewhere. The gravy was rather tasteless . The decor is nice...very nostalgic. Service was great but food definitely only average. I was disappointed as I expected more .The prices were decent for sure. However, I have not written off Hutches, as I would like to sample some of their other menu items.
After a day of sight seeing, we made a point of going to Hutch's for dinner with friends.This was their first time and they are usually very picky about where we go.They absolutely loved it.A step back in time, place an order and wait for your number to be called, grab a booth and enjoy yourself.The portions are generous and the fish very favourable.Our friends are already asking when we can go back!
Hutch's is a restaurant that is rare, it's not glitzy, it's not overpopulated with screens and sports, it doesn't have fancy decor, rather it's a throwback to an era when food was first and value was high. Located on the shores of Lake Ontario it is a large rambling diner - you order from a counter, get your number, grab a table. The feature is fish and chips and it was one of the top three fish and chips orders that I've had. The portion size is not for the faint of heart. On your first visit go with a one piece order, the 2 piece order is definitely for those with a healthy appetite (like me.) It can get real busy making it difficult to get a table but being patient is worth it.
It had been a long time since I had fries, fish, sportsman burger at hutch's. Long line ups still the norm, busy place. This place is an institution in Hamilton area for years. No doubt the location is the key here. The fires were about a 3 out of 10. Many places have better fries. The fish was so-so, at best. The sportsman burger was ok. There are so many choices for a better burgers around town. Dropped between $25 and $30 for 3 of us. I actually find it amazing that the place is so busy in comparison to the food quality. I like the atmosphere of the beach. I do not like to give a poor review as I look for the positive's when doing these reviews. Prices are within reason with respect to the location. It really becomes a thing to do. Go down to the beach, grab some fries and fish, or whatever. Clearly, a successful business model.It is so busy, it may be difficult to maintain a higher standard. The location saves this place.
Fish and Chips were very good and prices were reasonable. Loved the location, it is right on Lake Ontario.
