Sushi Gakyu

Fatty tuna was dry. Personally speaking no uni and tako was too salty. We did want to sit on the sushi counter and order omakase but they told us it was closed and we can’t change our menu, so that was a bit pressure into the meal. Service was okay. We feel it should be more customizable, like adding more sushi, they should of ask us first instead after meal and we didn’t even get the more expensive meal. Over all it was a bit of disappointing

Great little spot close to the White House and the National Mall that does really good, fresh sushi at a decent price. Will definitely be back

The put a spin on this review. Visited restaurant and set outside on the of August. For a Saturday night just a few people but we were happy some places open that we could sit down and eat. Food was not as good as Sushi Taro but certainly high quality for DC. Several of the items on the menu were not available. It felt like I bar in Japan that you would go to at the end of a hard day as an office worker. Maybe the whole place will feel differently once the vaccine comes out. I'm cautiously optimistic

This sushi is outstanding. If any Sushi Taro fans are missing amazing quality upscale sushi these days, I urge you to try Sushi Gakyu. Do not skip the Aburi Pieces of nigiri slightly blowtorched. Phenomenal. stars

Good Japanese in DC. Product, pampering and service

My son and I traveled to DC and enjoyed the sushi here! It was very good sushi. He had several of the salmon nigiri and I had the Assorted Sashimi platter. The fish tasted very fresh and the sushi rice was very good too. We would definitely come back with the family next time in DC

Me and my wife enjoyed our Valentines Day dinner at Sushi Gakyu and we were thoroughly impressed. The sushi was perfect, it is above our normal price range but the quality shows. Plus you pay for the location, the service, the ambiance so overall the price was on par with everything. The fish was the star of the plate as it should be, and I was impressed with the soft and delicate texture of the fish. It shows good craftsmanship with the cutting and preparation of the fish. The beer was superb. I enjoyed the service and the ambiance. I would absolutely recommend and return
