The retreat has indoor and outdoor bars and dining areas. We chose to eat outdoors because Covid still survived in New York. Dinner with a selection of salad or soup. The salad, with a thousand Iceland dressing, was excellent after removing the tasteless, lye-hardened black olive slices. The seafood chowder was also excellent our meals at a good start. I ordered sour roasts because I had read in a review that the restaurant was known for this classic German dish. Dinner with sides was so big that it had to be served on two separate dishes. Sauerbs and infusions with engraving on one, and the red cabbage, apple sauce, 2 potato pancakes and one side of the sour cream on the second. Unfortunately, it did not live until the Sauerbraten, which I had on various occasions at the Danzers German Restaurant on Ainsley Drive. The meat was not cooked long and slow to tender it and the sweet/sour sauce was too sweet with too little contrasting redness. On the other hand, the potato pancakes and the red cabbage were excellent, and the noodles were briefly roasted to make them crispy at the edges. Very nice. My wife had much better luck with the turkey dinner with potatoes, filling, cranberry sauce, squash and gravy. (also served on two plates), with enough remains for a full second meal at home.
