We had been anticipating our dinner (first time) at Davio 's Lynnfield for a few weeks. Unfortunately, the food and experience did not meet our expectations. Good things: We were seated immediately upon arrival and given a booth away from the outside doors, as requested. My husband 's short ribs were excellent the meat was flavorful, the sauce tasty and the accompanying potatoes and onion rings very nice indeed. My spinach salad was good, just good, nothing special. We were both surprised by the crispy chicken livers of course, the menu did say crispy, and we were curious about that kind of presentation, given that we make chicken livers at home reasonably often. We 'll stick with a simple saute of fresh livers in butter , thanks. I think that crisping the liver meat detracts from the lovely flavor of the livers themselves. Why mess with something so delicious? Okay, so here are the three really bad things: (1) My Chilean sea bass was expertly prepared, and could have been among the best I 've had, but the fish was distinctly fishy in aroma and taste, which I (foolishly) overlooked until I spent the next 14 hours going back and forth to the bathroom. My impression is that the fish was old and/or had been perhaps left out for a few hours and hadn 't fared well. Maybe because there was a large function in an adjoining area?? (2) The waitress had an odd affect and did not make an effort to make herself understood. She took our order reasonably quickly but twice forgot things for which we had asked and had to be reminded. Her slow service after taking our orders may be the result of an overcrowded restaurant, however. (3) Also, the noise level was unbelievably, inexcusably high. I felt like standing up and shouting for everyone to be quiet and reset their voice levels. At this point, you 're thinking that I 'm an old crank whose opinion should be taken lightly, but we 're lifelong foodies and go to fine restaurants regularly.
