This is the third review I've written about this specific restaurant, and the downhill slide is apparent. When it first opened it was great! Good Tex-Mex in great atmosphere. Then I noticed that they had dropped the ball a bit. Now, I just don't need to go back.We went specifically for the fajitas, their signature dish. Several of us ordered them, and we all had similar complaints - far to expensive for what you were served.Lone Star has their own tortilla making machine in full view of the restaurant, and on a Saturday it's usually running full tilt to keep up with the demand, so I thought it odd when I saw nothing going on with it. Turns out, the fresh made chips and salsa they used to bring out to the tables while you waited for your meal are no longer complimentary. They are charging for them, under the guise that they are donating the proceeds to charity.I hate this practice. Companies like to advertise as though they are acting benevolently for a specific charity, yet it's quite literally only the customers that are donating, and the company gets itself a tax break for those customer donations. I have a lot more respect for companies that match customer donations. So, no more fresh chips and salsa delivered to your table while you wait. Now I understood why the tortilla machine wasn't in constant use.I ordered the Steak fajitas combo with pulled pork at $20. Our very pleasant and helpful server brought out the toppings, and we noticed that the stingy amounts of toppings looked like they had been allotted out the previous day. The shredded cheddar had that white tinge and was dried out. The lettuce was rubbery and smelled stale. When we asked for more cheddar, she brought out little disposable dishes of freshly shredded cheddar that contained more than originally brought out!The meats, onions, and peppers did come out hot, however, there was so little meat served! You can't help but look at it, and think "This is all I get for $20?". Add to that the steak was fatty and grisly. One of the things Lone Star used to do better than anyone else was the tortillas with that amazing tortilla machine. So why do the tortillas come out soggy as though they were made and then portioned into the serving dishes a half hour before they are served? As we were leaving, I went over to the tortilla machine and noticed some of it looked like it hadn't been cleaned since they first opened. The arms of the part that flattens the tortilla was literally hairy with curled up burnt dust bunnies! I mentioned it to the manager, and he was shocked and said he'd take care of it.To me, the upsetting thing is that Lone Star has such awesome potential to be a truly great Tex-Mex restaurant, and it's obvious they are cost-cutting to try to chisel a little more profit out. If they ran this restaurant like they did when they first opened, we'd go back frequently, but as it is now, I don't feel like giving them another chance.
