The name is not just hype. Cindy Lou (Weisnan) James, AKA Lou Lou, carries on the Northern Black Hills tradition of baking pasties, that meat pie recipe from Cornwall that us miners are famed for taking to work in our lunch boxes. Hers is a family outfit with brother making giant servings of lean tender fillings wrapped in flaky pastry dough; husband and kids pitching in with donuts, breakfast rolls and specialty coffee. This local gal has made good in more ways than one with her mom's recipes and her training in the kitchen of King's Groceries, the original source of commercial pasties in Lead. Besides deliciousness, LouLou's serves up personality with hometown pride. She even makes gluten-free peanut butter pet treats. My dogs loved them at first site. You will not be disappointed. I wish her all the best!
